Dr. POLAT ÜRÜNDÜL

Dr. Polat Urundul was born in Ankara.

He studied English Language and Literature at Bilkent University. He received his M.A. degree in International Relations and European Studies from University of Portsmouth with ‘Merit’. Urundul received a Ph.D. degree in the Department of International Relations from Middle East Technical University (METU) with his thesis “British-Turkish Relations from 1983 to 1993: The Emergence of a Special Relationship in the Ozal and Thatcher Era”. He had been a visiting researcher postgraduate student at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

He learned English in Bristol. In 2014, he was elected as the Student Representative of English Language and Literature department at Bilkent University with 100% of votes. 

His articles were published on Conservative Home, E-IR and Eutoday.net. He also wrote articles on some web sites and journals in Turkey. Polat was a part of the Young Leaders UK programme, which was organised by the US embassy in London (2015-2016).  Between 2015 and 2016, he was the president of the Politics & IR committee of the Turkish Student Union of UK. Polat was a member of the Henry Jackson Society, the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House), British Association for Turkish Area Studies. Urundul was also a member of Conservative Friends of Turkey.  He interned at Bilkent University’s Centre for Foreign Policy and Peace Research and Pet Holding.He attended the 18th School of Politics at Bahcesehir University’s School of Government and Leadership. Urundul also completed the Political Leadership Excellence Programme organised by Konrad Adenauer Foundation and EDAM. He volunteered at the seventh annual Copenhagen Democracy Summit organised by the Alliance of Democracies Foundation.

Polat came second at Alpaslan Dikmen article competition which was organised by Turkey’s biggest fan group ultrAslan which supports Galatasaray Sports club in Turkey. 

He is the author of the monograph titled Alexander Dubček: From the Prague Spring to Ambassador in Ankara, which was printed by the Czech and Slovak Embassies in Turkey to commemorate the Prague Spring and Alexander Dubcek in 2018. 

He worked at the Democrat Party Headquarters as the Vice President of the Youth Wing from 2010 to 2015. He was the Chairman of the Party’s Youth Wing from 2018 to 2019. 

Dr. Urundul is a member of Ankara Galatasaray Executives and Business People's Association. He is a Board Member of Politics Research Center (Siyaset Araştırma Merkezi - SIYASAM).


 He speaks Turkish and English.
